One of the dangers of being an evangelical Vicar is you have to smile all the time. This can cause a creased face and a "hunting" look as you search for converts. Along with the customary pullover for services, and the "trendy" need to look like a lay person, they simply end up looking like a prize Christian geek. When did this ludicrous fashion start? Around 1950, I think, and got stuck there.
People like their clergy to dress as priests. And not some knitting-pattern catalogue.
