Speaking as someone with a very limited interest in Scottish Premier League football, (my home town team stands more chance of making the first landing on Jupiter than they do of reaching the SPL) I don't see why Rangers should have any interest in celebrating anything related to Ulster and its flag. Are they not supposed to be a Scottish team playing another Scottish team? So why any need to mention Ulster at all? Not unless they also plan to celebrate every other country's national day that occurs during the football season.

This is utterly moronic - saying you are anti-sectarianism and then going along with the brainless symbolism that fuels the very beast you affect to despise. This is another good reason for other SPL teams to refuse to pay the 5% administration charge for processing away fans tickets to the Old Firm. Hitting the bosses in the pockets is the best way to effect rapid change of policy.

Hear! Hear! Partick Thistle Nil have a wee Cop Insurance Cup tie against this lot too in the near future. I doubt if many of the morons will turn up anyway cos it's on the telly. They should maybe charge less for Rangers games. They always leave early anyway! C'mon the Jags! Into the Bigots!!!!

Some clarification please! Is Alshy instructing you to do this particular thing to ALL the people of Irish extraction you encounter? Or just particular individuals? Either way, it's quite a tall order!

- 10/09/2008 @ 06:08:52 pm
Alshy is obviously having some trouble with his literacy, grammar and grip on reality. You are not the people son, indeed it's questionable whether the description human should always be applied to your ilk. Fairly clear that what ever links he has with Castle Greyskull he has intimate ones with Castle Numbskull.
Oh and before critting Kenny's spelling, learn where to put an apostrophe in we're. -

I've left this comment in, to revisit any time I feel any sympathy for those who tell me that Glasgow Rangers FC have cleaned up their act and are now a non-sectarian club.
Comments are welcome, but save your time, bigot, because I will delete any further posts from you.I'm ashamed that my city still has room for people like you. I hope and pray that Thistle gub you in the League Cup. Your support should be banned from entering football grounds. -

The comments made by Ashley are as disgraceful as your strategy here Kenny. I'm off to look up some Fred Phelps style "God Hate Fags" Christianity and will use as "proof" the next time someone says christians aren't homophobic.
Quick question (which goes for Fr.John too, since we're facebook friends and all) : I'm a typical Rangers fan. Do you think I hate Catholics?
"Cleaned up their act" - Kenny, you can easily find chatrooms featuring Liverpool fans making Munich "jokes", other teams with sick songs about Hillsborough, or how about the lovely gas chamber songs some of the Chelsea support sing about Tottenham? Does this mean the whole English Premier League is sick too?

No Ryan, I don't think all Rangers fans hate catholics or are sectarian. My brother has supported Rangers since he was a kid and married a Catholic. But I do think there is an element of the support which is extremely bigoted and which should not be apologised for or defended by anyone who genuinely loves football. And I don't think that certain manifestations of support viz thinking supporting Rangers means you also defend criminal groups like the UDA, who were terrorists and are now just drug runners and extortinists should be acceptable or allowed. Support the team by all means but stick to football.

All I'm saying Kenny is that , having little understanding of Scottish football , and the nastiness associated with some fans of at least one SPL team , I'm sure you're being brave in publicly speaking out against bigoted sectarianism , however . . .
Others can say what they want here behind a cloak of anonymity , but as the rector of st.aug's dumbarton , anyone who wanted to could find you .
All I mean is , with concern for your safety , if I were you I'd be careful not to provoke any unhinged people out there ,
Take care , with sincere kind regards , ~ Martin . -

There is nothing inherently shameful about Ulster or its flag, despite sectarian abuses of said name and symbol. Many people find Israel's flag inherently sectarian and provocative too, but it would never occur to me that we shouldn't celebrate the culture of people who come from there on that basis.
