It was a long day for our visitors from The Gambia, and after having to eat something cooked by yours truly, they were dragged out to the pub for the annual Amnesty Quiz Night. Apart from the fact it was dreadfully run and seemed pretty badly organised, we managed to raise almost £400 for the local Amnesty branch tonight. It went on for ages and ages, and any team that got over 50 points out of 80 in a Quiz like that should be ashamed of themselves! The questions were often impossible! Get a life you guys!
This has nothing at all to do with me feeling totally inadequate, ignorant, lacking in intellegence and "cool", you understand, nor is it about the fact that my team came equally last. We shared this distinction with a team with no name. They were obviously embarrassed by their lack of knowledge too, but didn't have the guts to own up!
I'm sure our Gambian visitors were rather bemused, and certainly dog-tired by the end of the evening.
The dogs themselves, however, are full of life, having missed out on a decent run today! Ach well, there's always tomorrow!
In our own little by-election today, it seems like Labour have managed to hold on to the Glenrothes seat quite comfortably, despite a threat from the Scottish Nationalists. Shame really, but perhaps the super confident First Minister needed the reality check. There is still a long way to go before we manage to get our independence as a nation. However, after the Obama victory, we need to hold on to the fact that what seems impossible at times can actually happen!
"Dreadfully run and pretty badly organised." You can't be thinking in terms of appreciating the efforts of the folk in the pub who wanted to help Amnesty, surely? Or of encouraging them to do the same again next year? A lot of us really enjoyed it.
